Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools

If you want to work as a teaching assistant in a school, our Level 2 STLS qualification could be your ideal gateway. If you wish to enter your first role in a school or are already employed, this will give you the qualification you need.

  • 📌 Virtual course via Microsoft Teams

    The introduction to STLS course is a short 5-week course that will prepare you for the Level 2 STLS qualification.

    This Intro course is designed to give you an insight into the different roles available in schools, as well as the skills and knowledge you’ll need to achieve your qualification and to take up a career in supporting teaching and learning in schools.

  • 📌 Beverley Adult Learning Centre, Burden Road

    The Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools is an ideal qualification for anyone wishing to work as a teaching assistant in a school. This course is aimed at those who would like to take up their first role in a school, as well as those already employed, but who do not yet have a qualification in supporting teaching and learning.

    This qualification covers a range of essential skills and knowledge required to work effectively in a support role and to understand your role and responsibilities, such as child and young person development, safeguarding, communication, equality and diversity and supporting learning activities.

    To enable you to demonstrate your learning you must be spend a minimum of ten hours per week in school, either in a paid or volunteer capacity.

    Please note there are course fees for this course. Concessions may apply. An advisor will be able to support you with this.

    ADHD, short for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, is a term you might be hearing more and more often, but what does it actually mean? If you’d like to find out, sign up to this three-hour session to gain an understanding of this neurodiverse condition and learn all about how it can affect individuals in terms of their life, learning and work. You’ll come away with an understanding of the traits associated with ADHD and an awareness of the help and support that is available to children and adults who have been diagnosed with this neurodivergent condition.

    Autism and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are terms that you might be hearing more and more often nowadays, but what do they actually mean? This three-hour session has been designed to give you an introduction to autism spectrum disorder, so you can understand what it is and how it can affect individuals differently in life, learning and work. You’ll come away with an understanding of the traits associated with autism spectrum disorder and an awareness of the help and support that is available to children and adults who have been diagnosed with this neurodivergent condition.

    Are you dyslexic or know someone who is? Do you want to learn about dyslexia to be able to help others, or are you just curious about what it actually is? You’ll come away with an understanding of the traits associated with dyslexia and an awareness of the help and support that is available to children and adults who have been diagnosed with this neurodivergent condition.

  • 📌 Online session via Microsoft Teams

    On this FREE, two-hour course, you will have an introduction to the mental health awareness qualification, find out more about the course and meet some of our team, before deciding whether you want to continue to learn more.

  • 📌 Online course via Microsoft Teams, 22 October - 19 November

    Would you like more knowledge and understanding of mental health? Whether you work within the voluntary or community sector, have an interest in gaining further awareness of the subject or want another qualification to add to your CV then this course could be for you.

    On this online course we will tackle the negative attitudes that surround mental health, separate the myths from the facts, discuss ways to support people to talk about the problems that they are facing and consider ways to promote our own and others’ positive mental health.

    As this course in online, you will not need to attend any physical sessions but you will need to commit attending the remote sessions at the specified dates and times, as well as undertaking 1-1.5 hours of independent study per week.

    Mindfulness has enjoyed tremendous popularity in the last few years – it is said that it can reduce stress and help to create a better quality of life.

    On this FREE course, you will have an introduction as to what mindfulness is, find out more about our adult learning centres and meet some of our team, before deciding whether you want to continue to do the full course.

  • 📌 Bridlington Adult Learning Centre, 24 September - 5 November

    This course includes a taught theme each week and opportunities to discover how mindfulness practices can deepen connections with our own lives, through everyday experiences.

    Themes include mindfulness development and uses, mindful attitudes, ways of being, and introductory stress management.

    Most practices are ‘informal’, exploring mindfulness in every-day activities through attention to sounds, sights, tastes, and movement. You will be invited to try out some practices between sessions. There will also be an introduction to short formal practices (e.g., body scan, breath awareness), as preparation for Mindfulness for Health Step 2.

  • 📌 Online course - self guided

    If you would like to learn more about managing stress to help you deal with management responsibilities and to develop as a leader then this free course is ideal. Good stress management is important in the workplace. There is a difference between stress and pressure. All of us experience pressure on a daily basis, we need it to motivate us and push us to perform at our best. It’s when we experience too much pressure without the chance to recover that we start to experience stress. You will learn about the causes, symptoms and impact of stress in organisations and stress management techniques.

    On this course you will learn:

    • The causes and impact of stress in organisations.

    • The symptoms of stress and stress management techniques.

    • Management responsibilities and actions relating to work-related stress in the team.

    • How and when to provide advice, mentoring or counselling to support individuals in the workplace.

    Do you want to be able to change negative thoughts into positive thinking? Do you or someone you know, suffer from low self-esteem and self-confidence? If so, then join this free course and find out more about ways to boost your self-confidence and become more assertive before deciding whether you want to continue to learn more.

    This free course in understanding depression is suitable for anyone who wants to improve their knowledge and understanding, whether it is for personal reasons or for potential employment within a care sector setting. All of us feel down sometimes but when a low mood lasts for a long time and affects everyday life it becomes disabling. In its mildest form, depression can mean just feeling low. It doesn't stop people leading their normal lives but makes everything harder to do and seem less worthwhile. In its most severe forms depression can be life-threatening. This course looks at the causes, effects and management of depression.
